Travelling abroad means learning about new cuisine, culture, and most importantly — enough of the local language to properly greet people. There are two primary languages spoken in Bali, which is a small island in the western end of the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia. While Indonesia actually has a myriad of languages, you’ll find that most people speak common modern Balinese and some also speak Indonesian. Many residents of Bali also speak English as a third language, thanks in large part to the thriving tourism industry. However, you’re wise to bring along a language translation book just in case you encounter people on your journey who speak no English.

Pronouns
The Balinese language has more variants of pronouns than western languages. For instances, there are five different ways to say “You,” depending on the gender of your audience and how well you know him or her. Similarly, two different versions of “I” exist. Pay special attention to pronouns when you are translating a sentence — if you use a casual term when you should be more respectful, you may accidentally offend someone.

Names
People on Bali typically name their children by birth order. As a result, many people on the island have the same name. Don’t be surprised if you call out someone’s name in a crowd and more than one person turns around.

Learning to Pronounce
The way Balinese words are spelled, their pronunciation can easily be difficult to decipher or misinterpreted by westerners. If you do bring along a translation book, get one that tells you how to pronounce things phonetically. Many letters are combined in a way that English speakers are unaccustomed to, such as “Ng,” so you may be at a loss for how to pronounce a word.

Want to see beautiful Bali but not sure what to see and do? Why not arrange a cycling tour? There is no better way to explore the stunning beauty and colorful culture of Bali than cycling. Check out the following three cycling tours available in Bali.

Bali Countryside Cycling and Rice Paddy Walking Tours

Enjoy this one day cycling trip beginning at the quaint Kintamani village. Chat with the friendly locals and see the lovely Batur Lake and volcano. Ride through the countryside enjoying the pleasant breeze. Stop at a coffee plantation and sample some Bali coffee. Afterward take a brief walk through the rice paddies and learn about the farming techniques of growing rice. Continue on the cycling tour to a village temple and learn about local architecture, culture and spiritual life. End these Bali tours with a scrumptious, authentic Balinese meal.

Bali Paradise Ride

Enjoy a five day cycling tour beginning at Ubud, riding and staying in charming places like Candidasa, Tulamben, Lovina, Lake Batur and back again to Ubud. Explore the paradise beauty of Bali by cycling through its stunning scenery. Find adventure with off the beaten paths and historical sites. Climb lush green hillsides and coast around rice paddies. Ride around black shores of volcanic lakes or pristine coastline. Visit ancient temples and rest on beautiful beaches.

Bali Trailblazers Mountain Biking Holidays

For thrill and adventure in Bali, choose the mountain bike tours. Day trips are arranged according to the skill and experience of participants. While some trail options do require experienced mountain bikers, most do not. Choose day trips like Batur Crater, Besakin Temple to Perasi Beach, Abang to Tangkup or Kintamani down to Ubud. Ascend challenging hills and whiz down slopes. Zoom over lava fields and through tropical ravines. Guests can also choose family tours riding through villages, countryside and around rice paddies.

Bali is a beautiful island that is part of Indonesia. With a rich cultural history and beautiful landscape, travelers to Bali are never disappointed with what the island has to offer. Food and culture are important here, so expect to be immersed into the Balinese world.

Rich Wildlife

The Indonesian sea area, specifically Bali, contains more than a quarter of marine life from around the world. Whales, dolphins, sharks and other exotic fish make this area their home. Much of the Indonesian coastline is protected by the government. You may get lucky enough while visiting the coast to see lounging sea lions.

It may seem strange that Indonesia contains so much natural wildlife, especially for the shoreline. No one knows why so many marine animals are contained in this area, but it is not something to be missed with Bali tours to these areas highly recommended.

A Unique Flower Festival

The annual Flower Festival takes place in Tomohon, Bali. During the summer months flowers adorn the city. Floats are created with beautiful exotic flowers, and people participate in flower competitions. This unique festival can only be experienced in June and July in Bali. This famous festival draws in thousands of tourists each year. Participating in one of these festivals is a once in a lifetime experience.

Many of the festivities for the Flower Festival are free to participate in. If you go to Bali during the months of June and July, you will definitely have a great time.

Incense Is Cultural

An interesting and strange fact about Bali is the use of incense. Incense sticks are scented wooden sticks that are designed to be burned during special ceremonies. In Bali they are used religiously in temples, homes and religious ceremonies. The Balinese people hope that the smoke from these burning sticks will find its way to the gods. If you see incense burning in Bali, do not snuff the incense. This would be seen as disrespectful.

Bali is a place that has a real party atmosphere. The tropical weather, the cheap prices, the friendly people and the beach all add up to one heck of a rollicking good time. Follow this guide to find the best party spots in Bali.

Visitors looking for the best party spots in Bali first need to understand the right area to go. Though there are some nice clubs on other parts of the island, the town of Kuta is without a doubt the best place to party in Bali. Located right on the beach, it has hordes of people that come out late at night and party until the sun comes up the next morning.

Sky Garden is one of the most popular clubs to party in Bali. It offers very cheap prices on its beverages, which makes it a huge hit with budget-minded backpackers. Sky Garden offers a great dance floor, a balcony with amazing views and a bunch of shows to keep guests entertained.

The Bounty Ship is the largest and wildest club in Bali. It is built like a gigantic pirate ship. This is the place to go to dance all night, and it has a great mix of locals and foreigners.

For those looking for some good hip hop music, Mbargo is the place to be. It offers two floors of fun with numerous comfy couches for chilling out. This place is packed after midnight, and foreigners get in for free. On top of this it is in close vicinity to loads of Bali hotels along the Kuta strip, so you don’t have to stumble far when heading back to your bed.

The Hard Rock Café has live music every night of the week. It also offers the typical Hard Rock Café menu, which can be a welcome treat to those burnt out on Indonesian food. It is a little pricier than other clubs in Kuta, but it has a great atmosphere and a wide variety of food and drink.

Kuta is the most popular tourist spot for Bali holidays, a place where the old and the new meet. Here travelers can find all the conveniences of the modern world coexisting with sights and sounds from ancient times. While tourist literature is quick to point out the great shopping and sparkling nightlife to be found in Kuta, there is also a cultural side to the place that provides a glimpse into the beliefs of the native people. When you go to Kuta, you should see both.

Waterbom Bali

This spectacular water park is fun for children and adults. An assortment of water rides takes visitors through a lush tropical settings at speeds ranging from a lazy crawl to a thrilling rush. The rides have names like Smashdown, Jungle Ride, Racetrack and Boomerang with good reason. There’s a kiddie park for smaller visitors, a tropical garden, bungee jumping and everything else you need for an active, family-pleasing holiday.

Ubud

Ubud is a town filled with cultural attractions. Set in a landscape of verdant rice paddies, the town and surrounding area have a profusion of museums, temples and other attractions requiring at least a week to see properly. The Goa Gajah or Elephant Cave is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient carvings and a waterfall, good for relaxing after hectic travel. At Gunung Kawi, the Poet’s Mountain, visitors can descend the 371 steps to the burial complex of King Anak Wungsu and his wives.

Kuta Beach

Kuta Beach has many ancient temples still in use by the local people. A leisurely journey down the beach is like traveling through time. Here travelers can see spiritual places like the Moon Temple, Pura Penataran and Pura Batu Bolong. Just inside the main gate of Kuta Beach is another temple, Pura Kalangan Majelangu.

One of the most desirable Scuba Diving Spots is Indonesia, and if you are planning a trip to the islands there are plenty of excellent places where you can dive on your Bali holidays. The varied landscape offers divers a variety of different sites where divers can explore the rich coastline.

The USS Liberty
Expect ot see beautiful barracuda, sun and Napoleon fish and coral trout when you strap on your tanks and explore the USS Liberty. Attacked by a Japanese sub in 1942, the ship remained onshore until a volcanic eruption in 1963. Close to shore, just 30 metres out, it is covered in coral. Go night diving and watch lionfish and crinoids as they look for a new place to call home.

Crystal Bay
The south west side of Bali is home to Nusa Penida and is one of the islands best diving sites, Crystal Bay. Because it is sheltered, it is an excellent place to begin your dive. The spectacular colourful corals provide protection for the tropical fish that call Crystal Bay home. Most divers head to the spot to catch a glimpse of the Mola Mola which gather along the slopes.

Manta Point
Quite shallow and cool Manta Point has spectacular Manta Rays which come to feed. They rarely notice the divers while getting their fill of plankton that make the water quite murky.

Ped
The north coast of Nusa Penida features one of the most popular sites in Bali. The hard coral reefs are home of gorgonians and barrel sea sponges once you dive deeper. Sometimes you can see Manta Rays and Chevron Barracuda. Avoid touching the reef where you can spot angel and triggerfish as it is home to dangerous scorpion fish which can be tough to see.

The entire island of Bali is beautiful, but if you really want to explore everything it has to offer, strap on your tanks, pull on your fins and start diving.

When people travel to Bali, they expect to experience a new culture, with exotic sights and adventures. But if you’ve got an afternoon free after seeing all the landmarks on your list, you should know that the fun doesn’t end there! Bali has numerous zoos and animal parks that will delight all travellers, both young and old.

Bali Zoo
Priding itself on being the first zoo in Bali, the Bali Zoo is home to a huge assortment of animals both familiar and exotic. At the Zoo, you’ll see white tigers, a pride of lions, and various monkeys. You’ll also be introduced to soome animals you may never have heard of before, such as the binturong (a bear-like creature that smells like popcorn) and the cassowary (a massive bird with incredible plumage). The Bali Zoo also has a petting zoo, multiple opportunities to feed the animals, and even a special area where you can get face to face with the zoo’s lions, crocodiles, and other animals!

Bali Safari and Marine Park
This park’s main attraction is its Safari Tour, where you ride in an open trolley through many exciting animal habitats. You get up close to all the park’s animals, including zebras, elephants, hippos, lions, and more. Bali Safari and Marine Park has an extensive freshwater aquarium featuring piranhas and 40 other species of exotic fish, and the park’s dolphin exhibit is opening soon. This is by far one of the most popular Bali attractions.

Bali Bird Park and Reptile Park
Over a thousand unique, endangered, and native species of bird call this park home. The park does extensive conservation work and strives to preserve the many dying bird and reptile species of the world. Situated in a massive botanical garden, the park offers visitors the opportunity to feed and pet the animals, as well as enjoy their spectacular shows of flight.

Hu’u
Holding court in super-hip Seminyak, Hu’u exudes a sultry, exotically sexy Balinese vibe with cascades of candles flickering by a shimmering pool. Glamorous and bewitching, Hu’u is illuminated by stars and fairy lights, scented by orchids and home to some magnificent lychee martinis, cosmopolitans and fresh fruit daiquiris. A fine menu of distinctive boutique wines and champagnes is also available. Hu’s white-hot multi-sensory dance club rocks on into the wee hours with a super-fine mix of soul, retro disco and pop.

Ku De Ta
The ultimate in Balinese beach bars, stylish Ku De Ta boasts a swanky ocean-front locale, creative cocktails, and comfy deck chairs shaded by cheery red parasols. Whether you’re enjoying sun-drenched afternoon cocktails or sunset-spangled evening drinks, Ku De Ta offers the ultimate in seductive South Pacific ambience, all set to incredible DJ spins from lounge to soul to hip hop.

Potato Head
One of Bali’s newest and hippest lounges, Potato Head Beach Club is right on the beach in Seminyak, offering a swanky fusion of funky beach bar and sultry lounge. Within the fascinating façade constructed of thousands of antique shutters lies an effortlessly cool contemporary world of stylish lounges enhanced by intriguing art work, dramatic architectural design, jaw-dropping Indian ocean views, and of course luscious cocktails, fine wines and chill champagnes.

Rock Bar
A complete original, Jimbaran’s Rock Bar is magnificently perched on a rocky outcrop some 14 metres above the glimmering Indian Ocean, and the exotic locale is cleverly incorporated into the design of the bar. Sunsets are amazing from the spectacular open-top bar, particularly accompanied by samplings from Rock Bar’s extensive menu of international wines and clever cocktails. Smooth DJ tunes soothe from a booth built into the cliff.

Double Six
Sizzzling seaside on Blue Ocean Beach, Double Six Club boasts mesmerizing music, cool cocktails and tasty tapas. DJ’s are flown in from around the world to host the Double Six Club’s infamous all-night beach parties.
